According to research firm BMI, a subsidiary of Fitch Solutions, Morocco is poised to break records in tourist arrivals in 2024, with the momentum carrying through to 2028. The surge is expected to be fueled primarily by visitors from Europe, particularly France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and Germany.
Morocco’s appeal as a cost-effective beach holiday destination for European tourists, especially during the colder months, is a significant factor driving this trend.
In terms of figures, BMI anticipates a 15.3% increase in arrivals year-over-year for 2024, amounting to 16.8 million visitors. This upward trajectory is projected to maintain an average annual growth rate of 6.2% until 2028, culminating in nearly 20 million visitors. France is predicted to be the frontrunner in the next four years, followed by Spain, with Italy and Belgium expected to rank third and fourth respectively by 2028.
While Europe is the dominant source of tourists, Morocco is also set to draw visitors from other regions, including the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. BMI suggests that Morocco’s diverse tourism offerings will appeal to a broader global audience, providing the country with an opportunity to diversify its source markets over the medium to long term.
Morocco’s relatively low travel expenses make it an attractive destination for budget-conscious European tourists under economic strain. Beyond its beaches, Morocco boasts a rich cultural heritage, delectable cuisine, historical landmarks, adventure activities, and breathtaking natural landscapes, catering to a wide spectrum of tourist interests.
